Centering the experience of African Diaspora birthing families in the West Midlands and beyond.
The ReBirth Space is a Doula service based in Birmingham, UK, where African Diaspora families are able to connect back to their innate birth wisdom, to welcome the next generation with ease.
Birthing people have innate wisdom and physiology that allows their body to birth safely, yet this wisdom is often challenged within modern birthing culture, making it difficult for birthing families to welcome their new arrival with ease. This is particularly so for those of African and Caribbean heritage; those in the African Diaspora.
Belonging; displacement. Ancestral wisdom; ancestral trauma. Global community; local outcast. These are the words that come to mind when I think of the African Diaspora. To be Black-bodied is to experience the world through a unique lens, and to navigate adversity amongst many life stages. Pregnancy, birth and postpartum should be free from such adversity. When Black-bodied people are centered in Change, society can begin to heal from past trauma and move forward positively.
A doula may be the Change necessary for African Diaspora birthing families.
Why choose
a doula?
Birth outcomes are significantly improved with the presence of a doula.
Often, doulas operate outside of the medical system. Therefore, they have a unique perspective to offer regarding pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
Doulas are able to support the whole family system, lovingly holding you as you transition towards and through new parenthood.
Doulas can be the safe space needed during challenging moments.
Doulas support and empower your choices, allowing you to explore options and ideas, making this experience your own.
Why Choose the
ReBirth Space?
Black-bodied birthing people are centered in this space, ensuring a unique, culturally safe focus on wellbeing and care during the precious time of pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
This space is rooted in activism for Black-bodied birthing people, beginning to heal the traumas of the past one birthing person at a time.
Nourishment and vitality are core elements of The ReBirth Space, with a special focus on Ital Food as medicine, particularly in postpartum.
Indigenous African practices are considered and explored in this space, inviting traditional methods of birthing into the 21st Century.
